The Performing Arts and Music strategic markets in Catalonia
The Department of Culture has developed an intense project of coordination of the main Performing Arts and Music markets in Catalonia, as part of their strategic role as meeting and exchange platforms to present new artistic proposals and enhancing professional contacts. These markets are key to the dynamization of the different artistic disciplines, since they boost contracting and audience development.
The La Mostra d’Igualada, Trapezi Reus, FiraTàrrega, Mercat de Música Viva de Vic and Fira Mediterrània de Manresa complete the Performing Arts and Music strategic markets’ map in Catalunya.
All these markets accomplish their function as articulation tools of their sectors: music (MMVV), performing arts and street arts (FiraTàrrega), circus (Trapezi Reus), children and youth theatre (La Mostra) and popular culture and world music (Fira Mediterrània). On one hand, during their celebration,Vic, Tàrrega, Reus, Igualada and Manresa become true cultural capitals, and draw a massive audience that benefits the direct local economy. On the other hand, the makers, companies representing them, presenters and agents of the performing arts and music sector find the right framework to develop their activity.
The Department of Culture’s support to these five strategic markets is carried out in close collaboration with the involved City Councils, as well as with the respective professional sectors. This collaboration is essential to optimize as much as possible the available resources and increase the markets’ effectivity.
